SAILING: Kay takes trophy after long wait.Byline: ANDREW STRATTONCREWS competing in the Royal Mersey Yacht Club The Royal Mersey Yacht Club was founded as the Mersey Yacht Club at a meeting held in the Mersey Hotel, Old Church Yard, Liverpool on the 26th July 1844. There were twenty gentlemen present and officers including the first Commodore, Dr. Regatta during the Menai Straight fortnight yesterday had a one and -a-half hour wait for the breeze. Subsequently courses had to be drastically shortened in the very slow going but at least results were obtained in all classes and the competition was virtually all over when the thunder and lightning struck. The Mersey Mylnes competed for the Charles Mack Trophy and Chris Kay in Meridian prevailed as the unbeaten run of Mercator ended. Clive Hilton from Wallasey had double course for celebration. It was his 53rd birthday and not only were the tones of ``happy birthday'' ringing in his hears from colleagues on the water but also the echo from the winning gun which he claimed in the Sea Birds aboard Kittiwake kittiwake: see gull. kittiwake or black-legged kittiwake White oceanic gull (Rissa tridactyla) with pearl-gray mantle, black-tipped wings, black feet, and yellow bill. .
