SAIC to acquire Bellcore.


SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1996--Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC SAIC - http://saic.com. ) announced today that it has agreed to purchase Bell Communications Research, Inc Bell Communications Research, Inc - (Bellcore) The research laboratory for the seven regional Bell Telephone companies in the USA that were created by the divestiture of AT&T in 1984.

It can be compared to Bell Laboratories, for which many Bellcore employees used to work.

These different software components might be classified according to the functions within the Open Systems , engineering, and consulting services. Pacific Telesis Group was one of the seven Regional Bell Operating Companies created after the 1984 breakup of AT&T as a holding company for Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell.
