SAIC Wins U.S. Geological Survey EROS Data Center Technical Services Contract.

MCLEAN, Va. & SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 2002

Science Applications International Corporation's (SAIC) Space, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (SEAS) Group today announced a contract award from the Department of the Interior's U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center.

Under the terms of the agreement, SAIC's SEAS Group will provide scientific, engineering and operational technical support services.

This cost-plus-award-fee contract is valued at almost $155 million and will be performed over a period of five years. The SEAS Group will provide more than 400 personnel not including the transfer of additional contractor staff from the National Aeronautics & Space Administration's (NASA) Earth Observing System Data and Information System. These personnel will support the EROS satellite data reception, processing and distribution facility, located 15 miles north of Sioux Falls, S.D.

The EROS Data Center is a world leader in receiving, processing, archiving and distributing remote sensing data from aircraft and satellites. The Center holds the world's largest collection of remotely sensed data covering the Earth's landmasses, housing 15 million satellite images and aerial photographs. Multi-disciplinary scientists at the Center are conducting sophisticated long-term studies of global change and related earth science issues. The USGS has operational responsibility for the Landsat satellite series and the growing number of Landsat images that have recorded changes in the Earth's surface for more than 30 years.
