SAHARA RESORTS INITIATES ALCOHOL AND DRUG POLICY
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Sahara Resorts officials

announced a new drug and alcohol policy for its 4,000 employees which will include comprehensive rehabilitation programs and drug testing for job applicants.
Henry Ricci, vice president of administration for Sahara Resorts, wrote the policy for the company's four properties after conducting extensive research and meeting with the state's Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
"This is really the first comprehensive plan designed for hotel- casinos," said Ricci, "and since we've devoted a lot of time to researching and creating the policy, we've been more than happy to share the information with the entire industry. Several major resorts took one look at this policy and adopted it right away."
The policy, which covers the Sahara, the Hacienda, the Santa Fe, and the Pioneer Hotel and Gambling Hall in Laughlin, Nev., will include a variety of rehabilitation programs and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
"Over 50 percent of worker absenteeism in the state of Nevada is due to alcohol and drug abuse," said Ricci. "So we're not out to intimidate anyone, or start any sort of random testing. The fact is, if we deal with this problem, we can increase productivity and generate more revenue."
Ricci added the new policy will pertain to management as well as union and non-union employees. Several Sahara Resorts employees have already successfully completed the company's new rehabilitation program, and Ricci also said future plans call for an on-property counselor.
