SAFLINK to be Sole Biometric Application Software

Provider for DoD Paid Test Project

SAFLINK(R) Corporation (OTCBB:SFLK), a leading developer, marketer, and integrator of biometric security solutions, announced today that its team has been selected to participate in the third segment of the Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) project.

SAFLINK is the sole biometric security application software provider to participate in this segment, which is led by BearingPoint, Inc. (NYSE:BE), a DoD CAC prime contractor.

SAFLINK will work with the DoD Biometrics Fusion Center (BFC) located in North Central West Virginia to evaluate the potential use of "contactless" smart card and biometric technologies with the department's Common Access Card (CAC) in a physical access environment. The expected value of this current award to SAFLINK for the development and delivery of biometric security application software is approximately $137,000. This will be the third of three such awards for the Company as part of the overall DoD CAC program.

Multi-Segment, Multi-Phase Process

The first segment, known as CAC-A, explored the best way to store the biometric information of military personnel in four different scenarios. The second segment of the project, CAC-B, explored the integration of this biometric information with specific applications, and the third segment of the project, CAC-C, is intended to explore the use of these templates in a wireless physical access control environment.

About the Common Access Card

The Defense Department's "Common Access Card," or CAC is a smart card with an embedded computer chip that is part of the DoD's nationwide effort to improve security at its installations worldwide. The DoD CAC program is administered through the General Services Administration Smart Access Common ID program. The CAC is designed to enable authorized physical access to installations, buildings, and controlled spaces, as well as to gain access to military computer networks and systems. The CAC is intended to be the standard identification card for all active-duty military personnel, selected Reserve and National Guard, as well as the Department's civilian employees and eligible contractors. More than one million cards have been issued to date, with distribution expected to exceed four million in the next two years.
