SAFETY CONCERNS OVER RISING RIVERS CAUSE OWENS-CORNING TO SUSPEND PRODUCTION AT KANSAS CITY, MO INSULATION PLANT

KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Owens-Corning (NYSE: OCF) announced today that production at its Kansas City insulation plant is being suspended temporarily due to rising water levels in the Missouri, Kansas, and Kaw rivers.
"Our primary concern is for the safety of our employees," said Plant Manager Jim Hansen. "Since the current water levels pose a potential safety issue, we have decided to take this action. Employees, however, have been shifted from production and production-related functions to full-time work on the security and safety of the plant."
So far, the Missouri river has crested at a level higher than the 1951 flood level, but with a few feet of freeboard remaining on the levee. The Kaw river is expected to crest today at more than 52 feet.
