SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - City officials are applying for a $360,000 grant to make 10 of the busiest intersections in Santa Clarita safer for senior citizens and the blind.

The improvements are slated to include new or improved wheelchair ramps, the relocation of pedestrian push buttons, installation of vibrating vibrating,
v using quivering hand motions made across the client's body for therapeutic purposes.

The Hazard Elimination Safety Program is administered by the state Department of Transportation, and the grants are awarded annually.

The list of intersections slated to be improved was developed by officials at the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Senior Center and the city's Committee on Aging, said Ian Pari, associate traffic engineer.

--Soledad Canyon Road at Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling .

--Sierra Highway at Friendly Valley Parkway.

There is no deadline for the grant process, and officials are uncertain when the improvements will begin.
