SAFECALL TO LAUNCH SECURE CELLULAR NETWORK

HARTFORD, Conn., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Shared Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: STCH) and Cycomm International, Inc. (Alberta: CYI), announced today that they will launch the country's first cellular privacy network in early May. The joint venture, called SafeCall, Inc., utilizes a patented process that offers cellular users the ability to place a secure scrambled call from anywhere within the United States.
"Cellular scrambling has been available for years, but up to now required security devices at both ends of the conversation," said Richard Koch, president of SafeCall. "Our network sidesteps those complications and greatly reduces the cost of the hardware by allowing easy access to the security feature on an as-needed basis."
STI is a nationwide provider of comprehensive telecommunications and data services. Cycomm develops and markets telecommunications products based on proprietary signal processing and encryption technologies. SafeCall will utilize STI's nationwide network of digital PBXs, long- distance services and Cycomm's scrambling technology to launch this cellular network nationwide.
"The formation of SafeCall is especially timely with the growing demand for confidentiality on cellular calls," added Gordon Collett, president of Cycomm Corporation. "Many cellular customers, particularly users in client-sensitive professions, have cut back on cellular phone usage because of inexpensive scanning devices which breach the confidentiality of their calls."
"Doctors, lawyers, corporate executives, brokers and politicians are potential clients for our network's security service," said Sean Hayes, executive vice president for Shared Technologies Cellular, Inc. "SafeCall provides an economical and secure network solution for cellular users without the complexities of managing an independent system."
STI operates in 66 buildings in 13 metropolitan areas including Hartford, Boston, Mahwah (N.J.), Chicago, Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Seattle. Cycomm International Inc. has its main centers of operations in Portland, Ore., Albuquerque, N.M., and Fairfax, Va.
