And the shopping is never better than in the month or so before Christmas, when many hotels and inns roll out the red carpet with special discounted lodgings and packages offered in conjunction with major department stores This is a list of department stores. Nov. 29 through Dec. 24, the Crocker Galleria will provide free cable car shuttles between the Post Street side of the shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  and Union Square.

Here are some special hotel packages geared toward Christmas shoppers:

ANA Hotel San Francisco offers a ``Holiday Shopper's Package'' through Dec. 30 that includes a room for $159 a night, a $25 gift certificate for Macy's department store, free gift wrap and hotel delivery, continental breakfast for two and free cable car shuttle between the Crocker Galleria and Union Square. Grand Hyatt San Francisco offers a Holiday Shopping Package Dec. 15-Jan. 6 (excluding Dec. 31) in conjunction with Macy's Union Square and the San Francisco Ballet San Francisco Ballet, or SFB, is a San Francisco, USA based ballet company, founded in 1933 as part of San Francisco Opera Ballet. The Inn at the Opera offers a ``Victorian Memories'' holiday package Nov. 29-Dec. 24 that includes a room for two at $135 per night, breakfast, Victorian ornament, free transportation to Saks Fifth Avenue Saks Fifth Avenue is a chain of upscale American department stores that is owned and operated by Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises (SFAE), a subsidiary of Saks Incorporated. The Sir Francis Drake Hotel offers a $165 Shopper's Delight package that includes lodgings (single or double), valet parking, a $30 restaurant credit for a choice of three restaurants, a $50 credit on future room reservations (available until March 30), and discounts at the San Francisco Shopping Centre, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue. Villa Florence just off Union Square, offers a Holiday Shopping on the Square package that includes a night's lodging (single or double), parking, shopping coupons for Union Square stores, access to the hotel's gift-wrapping room (stocked with paper, ribbons and tape) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and an evening wine reception for $129. The Westin St. Francis hotel The Westin St. Francis is a luxury hotel in the Union Square district of San Francisco, California. The hotel opened on March 21, 1904.
