Evidence gathered by the institute clearly demonstrates that "satisfied" customers are not necessarily "loyal" customers. Stum defines customer loyalty in terms of measurable customer behavior, specifically: repeat purchases, increased volume of purchases, purchases across all product and service lines, and resistance to competitive offers.

Prior to founding the institute, Stum served as Corporate Director of Organization Development at Unisys Corp. in Detroit. He headed Organization Development Services at Sandy Corp., in Troy, Mich., and the Masters In Management Degree program at Walsh Business School. Stum is an adjunct professor at several Michigan Universities.
