She is the widow of The Power of Positive Thinking author Norman Vincent Peale, and co-founder of Guideposts magazine and the Peale Center.  will be 100 years old this weekend on Sunday, September 10th. Along with her husband, the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (May 31, 1898 – December 24, 1993) was a Protestant preacher and author (most notably of The Power of Positive Thinking) and a progenitor of the theory of "positive thinking".  author of The Power of Positive Thinking, she founded the Guideposts Guideposts is a Christian-faith based non-profit organization founded in 1945 by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his wife, Ruth Stafford Peale. The Guideposts organization is headquartered in Carmel, New York, with additional offices in New York City, Chesterton, Indiana, and Pawling,  organization in the 1940s and has also served as Guideposts' Chairman of the Board from 1992 to 2003. She is currently Chairman Emeritus.

Married to Dr. Peale for 63 years, Ruth Stafford Peale in her own right became a prolific writer, editor, speaker and nationally known figure. Mrs. Peale - who has met with Presidents and Popes and developed countless friendships around the world among celebrities and everyday people alike - has inspired millions with her work and writings. At age 100, she is the very personification of positive thinking.

Born in Fonda, Iowa, Ruth Stafford graduated from Syracuse University and taught mathematics in Syracuse Central High School. She met and married a handsome young minister, Norman Vincent Peale, in Syracuse before they moved to New York City New York City: see New York, city.

Working closely together, Dr. and Mrs. Peale founded the Guideposts organization to provide inspirational publications and services developed from the belief that people's lives can be improved, strengthened and deepened through positive thinking and applied spiritual faith. Best known is Guideposts, a magazine containing "True Stories of Hope and Inspiration," which is today among the top 10 largest monthly publications in America with a paid circulation of nearly two and one-half million and a readership of over 8 million. For the past four years Guideposts has been ranked #1 as "Favorite" magazine in America in a national survey of the readers of over 230 major magazines. Guideposts also publishes several other popular magazines, is a major book and paperback publisher, produces multiple lines of greeting cards and markets other inspirational products.
