Galen Rupp's poise and patience en route to an American collegiate record in the 10,000 meters on Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  had the track and field world buzzing.

Rupp's performance, which ranks seventh in U.S. history, lengthened his season as he stamped himself as a legitimate contender for the U.S. team that will compete in Japan from Aug. 25 to Sept. 2.

`We'll need a more careful analysis of what he does at the NCAAs,' Lananna said. `We have to take the U.S. nationals into consideration, and we have to be intelligent about what he does for the rest of the season.'

 runners mix it up

in medley at Penn Relays

Four Oregon Track Club Elite teammates ended up competing against one another in the men's distance medley relay The Distance Medley Relay is an athletic event in which four athletes compete as part of a relay. Unlike most track relays, each member of the team runs a different distance. A Distance Medley Relay is made up of a 1200 meter leg, a 400 meter leg, an 800 meter leg, and a 1600 meter leg -  at the Penn Relays last weekend.

Nick Symmonds ran the opening 1,200-meter leg for USA Blue, Courtney Jaworski ran the 800 for the World All-Stars, and Brandon Shaw (800) and Sean Graham (1,600) both ran for USA Red.

Jaworski, who clocked 1:49.4, was on the winning team as the World All-Stars edged USA Blue, 9:29.44 to 9:29.73, despite a 2:57.6 performance from Symmonds, which gave USA Blue the early advantage.

USA Red, with Shaw (1:48.0) and Graham (3:57.0) on the final two legs, finished fifth at 9:31.63. Canada (9:30.20) and Kenya (9:31.42) placed third and fourth, respectively.

Tickets for the second annual Road to Eugene '08 high-performance track and field meet May 27 at Hayward Field go on sale Friday.

The 2-hour meet, which is a benefit for Professional Athletics Association, a newly formed union of track and field athletes, starts at 2 p.m. with competition in 15 events.
