ALBANY, N.Y. - Olympian Marla Runyan Marla Runyan, born January 4, 1969 in Santa Maria, California, is a marathon runner who is legally blind.

After graduating from Camarillo High School in 1987, Ruyan went on to study at San Diego State University, where she began competing in several sporting events: the

Fellow Olympian Colleen De Reuck Colleen De Reuck (born April 13, 1964 in Vryheid, Kwazulu-Natal) is a long-distance runner from South Africa, who became an American citizen on December 11, 2000. She made her first appearance for Team USA , 39, of Boulder, Colo., again placed second, with a time of 15:41. Blake Russell, 27, of Medford, Mass., placed third in 15:43.

 Ayala-Troncoso, 44, of Austin, Texas, took her third Masters title with a finish of 16:47. Her previous wins in the over-40 division were in 1999 and 2000. Last year, she placed fifth in 17:35.

Janet Robertz, 43, of Shorewood, Minn., finished second in 17:12. A record 3,616 women participated in the race through downtown Albany. The course record was set in 1995 by Lynn Jennings.

, N.J. - The No. 8 Oregon State men's varsity eight placed ninth at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association The Intercollegiate Rowing Association runs the IRA Championship Regatta, which is considered to be the United States collegiate national championship of rowing. Since 1995, it has been held on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey and includes both men's and women's  National Championships on the Cooper River.

The junior varsity finished seventh and the novice eight was eighth.

The varsity eight's ninth-place showing matched OSU's third-best performance at the IRAs. The varsity eight, racing in the Petite Final to determine places 7-12, finished third with a time of five minutes, 53.79 seconds, 0.19 seconds back of second-place Navy. Brown won in 5:50.34.

The JV team, rowing in the Grand Final (places 1-7), finished seventh with a time of 6:11.02. California won in 5:53.13, and OSU crossed the line less than five seconds back of sixth-place Stanford. OSU's novice eight finished second in its Petite Final with a time of 6:08.20 to earn eighth place overall.

Royster hit two more home runs as the Challengers beat their Single-A counterparts 16-0 in five innings. Mike Woodfin also homered, while Mike Bauman and Cory Boosinger combined on a one-hit shutout.

In other scores Saturday, Richey's Market of Corvallis beat the Challengers A West 19-2 and the Challengers A East 10-0, and Les Schwab beat the Challengers A East 4-3.

Nick Anderson pitched three innings of relief to earn the win in Game 1. Brian Barley had a two-run homer for Emerald Valley in the second, and Jon Higgins added a solo homer an inning later.

In Game 2, Aaron Knowles started and went four innings, striking out four while not allowing an earned run to get the win. Neil Barrett homered as Emerald Valley took a 2-0 lead in the second, and Johnny Bowden hit a grand slam as part of a seven-run third inning.

On Friday, Derek Bodeen drove in three runs and Bowden added two RBIs to lead Emerald Valley to a 9-7 victory over Wilson in Portland.

Outlaws remain unbeaten in nine-man football

The Oregon Outlaws improved to 5-0 this season with a 26-0 shutout of the Cascade Steel in a nine-man football game at Churchill.

Josh Annett threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Outlaws, the defending league champions.

Earlier, Phil DuPont connected with tight end Patrick Charles for two touchdowns as the Yamhill County Enforcers beat the Eugene Knights 46-0.

Zuvich wins modifieds

in Cottage Grove racing

COTTAGE GROVE - Rick Zuvich of Eugene won his heat in the modifieds class and went on to take the main event in racing at Cottage Grove Speedway.

Braedon Hand of Cottage Grove got his first career win by taking the main event in the sportsman class, while Dallas Zuniga of Creswell took his first win of the season in sportsman sprints.

Saturday's other winner was Dale Smith, who clocked the fast time in the 360 sprints and went on to win the main event.
