RuleSpace Continues to Focus Efforts on Web-Enabled Mobile Devices

PORTLAND, Ore. -- As the number of children carrying mobile phones and other Web-enabled mobile devices continues to grow, so, too, does their risk of being exposed to inappropriate materials online. Together, RuleSpace and the other members of FOSI will work to help shape public policy, further improve filtering and identification technology and educate the public on developments in online safety.

"The children of today are even more likely to be exposed to inappropriate materials online, and, because of the ubiquity of Web-enabled mobile devices like cell phones, it can happen anywhere - which is why they need to be protected," said Alistair Allan, RuleSpace president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "It's clear that an organization like FOSI can make a difference, and RuleSpace is delighted to work with FOSI and its members to make the Internet experience safer and more effective for families."

The primary vision of FOSI is to expand the benefits of the Internet by increasing safety and decreasing the fear associated with encountering inappropriate material online. The organization will also seek to strike a balance between protection of families and protection of the individual rights of free speech and expression. FOSI replaces the Internet Content Ratings Association (ICRA (Internet Content Rating Association, www.icra.org) An organization dating back to 1994 that was created to protect children from potentially harmful online content and to protect free speech on the Internet. ICRA did not rate Web sites or label the content. ) and will work to further that organization's work and mission to be the world's leading content labeling system on the Internet. FOSI will serve as an umbrella body where technology leaders like RuleSpace can join policy thought leaders to collaborate and innovate in the field of family online safety.

"The struggle to protect children from the dangers of inappropriate materials online extends well beyond the PC, and that's why RuleSpace's participation as a member of FOSI is so key," said FOSI CEO Stephen Balkam. "RuleSpace has made great strides in shielding Web-enabled mobile devices against inappropriate content, and FOSI looks forward to their continuing support and contribution toward keeping kids safe."
