Rugby League: WELLENS TAKES CENTRE STAGE; Lancashire 22 Yorkshire 18.

Byline: DAVID BURKE

PAUL WELLENS could have solved Great Britain's centre problem for the Test against world champions Australia next month. The St Helens full-back switched positions and grabbed two of Lancashire's four tries to give the red rose county a boost before Tuesday's Origin return at Headingley.

Wigan veteran Gary Connolly looks certain to be ruled out of the Sydney showdown on July 12 and a superb pass from Barrie McDermott to go over with skipper Andy Farrell booting both conversions in front of a disappointing 7,352 crowd. Yorkshire refused to concede defeat with Lee Gilmour's try setting up a nail-biting finale.
