Ruby Dee Ruby Dee (born October 27, 1924) is an American actress, poet, playwright, screenwriter, journalist, and activist. Early life
She was born Ruby Ann Wallace in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Harlem, New York.

The band has a hip, honky-tonk thing going that fans of Reverend Horton Heat might enjoy.

The band's songwriter and lead vocalist, Ruby Dee Philippa, met Harada at one of Seattle's best honky-tonk venues. At the time, she was thinking of breaking away from her backup role with another band and starting her own.

That was five years ago. And what she's got are songs about cheatin', heartbreak, loss and loneliness, all of which she somehow makes fun.

The four-piece band's sound is an Americana blend that a news bio says includes alt-country, "hard" country, rockabilly, Western swing, Tex-Mex and rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music. .

The Tuesday show at the Indigo District, 1290 Oak St., starts at 10 p.m. for a $5 cover.

The WOW Hall tonight will once again host Aphrodesia and its Afrobeat music. But this time, the group identifying itself as "Kan'Nal's alter ego A doctrine used by the courts to ignore the corporate status of a group of stockholders, officers, and directors of a corporation in reference to their limited liability so that they may be held personally liable for their actions when they have acted fraudulently or unjustly or when " will join the bill.

Lunar Fire features several members of Kan'Nal. The Steep Canyon Rangers, playing Sam Bond's tonight, have dates - the musical kind, at least - booked almost a year into the future, including bluegrass festivals in Sweden and Ireland.

The band contemplates how great life could be on "Lovin' Pretty Women," the title track from a new CD the band will release Aug. 14.

In a news release, vocalist and bluegrass picker John Cowan John Cowan is a vocalist and bass player. He has a background in soul music and now performs progressive bluegrass. From 1974 until their final breakup in 1989, he was the lead vocalist and bass player of the New Grass Revival.  says he thinks the Rangers' music is thought-provoking, creative and energetic.

`(C)ollectively and individually, (they) are wonderful pickers and singers," he says. "Witnessing their commitment to honor the tradition of a true American art form ... is a joy for not only the audience, but for other musicians as well."

The show starts at 9 p.m. for $10.

Ludicra

Monday, Samurai Duck

A black metal quintet out of San Francisco, Ludicra will hold down the middle slot of a show at Samurai Duck on Monday. Ludicra features members of Hammers of Misfortune Hammers of Misfortune is a Progressive metal band from San Francisco, California. Their sound incorporates various elements of folk metal, doom metal and power metal. It's a side-project of John Cobbett, guitarist of The Lord Weird Slough Feg.  and Impaled.

But a news release says to not let the "black metal" label scare you off, because the band's "poetic lyrics and literary outlook on urban alienation go beyond what one would expect from the genre."

The news release points out that Ludicra is one of the few black metal bands fronted by a woman.

Ninth Moon Black opens the show at 9 p.m., and Middian closes it out. Samurai Duck is at 990 Oak St.

The cover is $5.

Touting themselves as well-dressed men from New York City New York City: see New York, city.
