Rubber division takes nominations. (Meetings).


During the Rubber Division, American Chemical Society The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a learned society (professional association) based in the United States that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. Founded in 1876 at New York University, the ACS currently has over 160,000 members at all degree-levels and in , spring technical meeting, held last month in San Francisco, CA, Richard J. Hupp of Schenectady International, chair of the Division's Nominating Committee, announced nominations for open executive committee positions in 2004.

Any Rubber Division, ACS (Asynchronous Communications Server) See network access server. , member who wishes to nominate additional people for these positions must do so by June 15, and the nomination must be sponsored by 25 members of the Rubber Division. Nominations may be submitted to the Executive Director, Rubber Division, ACS, P.O. Box 499, Akron, OH 44309-0499. All elegible nominees will be included in the Rubber Division's election ballots, which will be sent to the general membership on July 1. These ballots must be returned to the Executive Director by August 31.

Nominees for open office positions include: Chair-elect (David O'Brien, PolyOne; and Don Reiches, Reiches Chemical); and assistant secretary (John Boruta, Rhein Chemie; and Gerald Williams, Tumpeer Chemical).

The Rubber Division, ACS, is also accepting nominations for the following six awards for 2004: The Charles Goodyear Medal (sponsored by the Rubber Division), the Sparks-Thomas Award (sponsored by ExxonMobil Chemical), the Melvin Mooney Distinguished Technology Award (sponsored by Crompton/Uniroyal Chemical), the George Stafford Whitby Award for Distinguished Teaching and Research (sponsored by Cabot), the Fernley H. Banbury Award (sponsored by Farrel) and The Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Award (sponsored by Advanced Elastomer elastomer (ĭlăs`təmər), substance having to some extent the elastic properties of natural rubber. The term is sometimes used technically to distinguish synthetic rubbers and rubberlike plastics from natural rubber.  Systems).

These awards recognize specific distinguished achievements of rubber scientists, engineers, chemists and technologists. Special honors are received with the various awards, such as monetary honorariums, engraved en·grave

The deadline for award nominations to be received at the Rubber Division is August 1. Selection of finalists is determined by the Division's Science and Technology Awards Committee and approved by the Executive Committee.
