Rubber accelerator.

Rhenocure ZBOP/S is an accelerator developed for use with silica tires. The use of dithiophosphate accelerators or sulfur donors in the vulcanization vulcanization (vŭl'kənəzā`shən), treatment of rubber to give it certain qualities, e.g., strength, elasticity, and resistance to solvents, and to render it impervious to moderate heat and cold.  of diene rubbers is said to have been common practice for many years. Compared with conventional accelerators, they are said to offer advantages such as lower reversion tendency of natural rubber, heat stability of the vulcanizates or high solubility of rubbers in varying polarity. Recent tests are said to have demonstrated that it is possible to substitute the secondary accelerator diphenyl diphenyl /di·phen·yl/ (di-fen´il) a toxic compound comprising two linked benzene rings, used as a fungistat in containers for shipping citrus fruits.

) with Rhenocure ZBOP/S without any problems in highly loaded silica compounds based on styrene butadiene rubber (SBR SBR - Spectral Band Replication ) and, at the same time, benefit from improved vulcanization, reversion behavior, heat aging resistance and the mechanical-dynamic properties of the vulcanizates. These benefits are said to be especially marked in natural rubber compounds where it was possible to considerably reduce dynamic heat buildup, in particular, according to the company. In addition, Rheonocure ZBOP/S is said to be able to increase the coupling intensity between the rubber and the silica filler, just like other dithiophosphate accelerators. This is said to allow higher dynamic elastic modulus at service temperatures. (Rhein Chemie Rheinau GmbH)
