Rubber Division takes nominations.The Rubber Division, American Chemical Society The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a learned society (professional association) based in the United States that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. Founded in 1876 at New York University, the ACS currently has over 160,000 members at all degree-levels and in , is accepting nominations for the following six awards for 2002: The Charles Goodyear Award; the Sparks-Thomas Award; the Melvin Mooney Melvin Mooney (1893-1968) was an American physicist. He developed the Mooney Viscometer and other testing equipment used in the rubber industry. He also proposed the Mooney-Rivlin solid constitutive law describing the hyperelastic stress-strain behavior of rubber. Distinguished Technology Award; the George Stafford Whitby Award for Distinguished Teaching and Research; the Fernley H. Banbury Award; and the Chemistry of Thermoplastic Elastomers Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), sometimes referred to as thermoplastic rubbers, are a class of copolymers or a physical mix of polymers (usually a plastic and a rubber) which consist of materials with both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. Award. These awards recognize specific distinguished achievements of rubber scientists, engineers, chemists and technologists. Special honors are received with the various awards, such as monetary honorariums, engraved en·grave tr.v. en·graved, en·grav·ing, en·graves 1. To carve, cut, or etch into a material: engraved the champion's name on the trophy. 2. plaques and recognition at an awards banquet held in honor of the recipients. Presentations to the award winners will be made during the Rubber Division's 161st Spring Technical Meeting, to be held in Savannah Savannah, city, United States Savannah, city (1990 pop. 137,560), seat of Chatham co., SE Ga., a port of entry on the Savannah River near its mouth; inc. 1789. , GA in April of 2002.
