Royal Oak continues drilling program at Young-Davidson site in Matachewan area

Royal Oak Resources of Toronto is seeking the magic million ounces of gold from its Young-Davidson ore inventory before proceeding with what could be a major mining operation in Matachewan.

British physician. He won a 1902 Nobel Prize for proving that malaria is transmitted to humans by the bite of the mosquito.
Burns, the company's vice-president of exploration, is not making any commitment until he has the results from further drilling scheduled for this year.

Pamour Inc., Royal Oak's exploration company, found .171 ounces of gold per ton over 141.5 feet last year, and the drills went down another 35,000 feet last August. Details of this work have not yet been released.

The company wants to know exactly what is below the Young-Davidson property before proceeding with development. It will then put together a feasibility study "A Feasibility Study" is an episode of the original The Outer Limits television show. It first aired on 13 April, 1964, during the first season. It was remade in 1997 as part of the revived The Outer Limits series with a minor title change.  and pursue financing to construct mining works.

If it enters operation, a mine on the Young-Davidson property could employ between 200 and 300 workers. But such a development depends on coming up with favorable fa·vor·a·ble

Burns says Pamour has found very good widths to date.

However, if development proceeds, Royal Oak must now give consideration to the extra costs of environmental protection.

There is no formula to calculate the cost of developing a mine which preserves the environment, and the costs are difficult to estimate because rock structures and chemical compositions vary with each mine.

However, Burns is certain that concern for the environment will add to the cost of bringing new developments on stream.

"In Ontario, fortunately, there is not a lot of acid draining out, unlike the West where there is little carbonate carbonate (kär`bənāt', –nət), chemical compound containing the carbonate radical or ion, CO3−2. Most familiar carbonates are salts that are formed by reacting an inorganic base (e.g.  in the rock to buffer buffer, solution that can keep its relative acidity or alkalinity constant, i.e., keep its pH constant, despite the addition of strong acids or strong bases.  acid," he adds.

"People are more aware of the environment now, and miners today have to live with the sins of their fathers."

Royal Oak is currently undergoing a reorganization which involves amalgamating Royal Oak with Pamour, Pamorex Minerals, Giant Yellowknife Mines and Atchaiko into Royal Oak Mines The Royal Oak Mines Incorporated was a gold mining company, founded in 1990 by Peggy Witte in Kirkland, Washington. They held numerous gold and base metal properties in Canada, including the Giant Mine in the Northwest Territories, Pamour Mine in Ontario, Hope Brook Mine in . Burns says the companies are being streamlined to improve the efficiency of production and exploration.
