Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq:MVSN), the world leader in Digital Rights Management technologies, announced today that the Shell International Exploration and Production BV (Shell) Unit of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, the world's largest private energy group, has signed a license agreement with its GLOBEtrotter Software division for the worldwide deployment of SAMSuite(TM).

GLOBEtrotter's SAMSuite, the de facto standard software asset management (SAM) tool for software electronically licensed by FLEXlm, will be used by Shell worldwide to control, manage and report usage on FLEXlm-enabled software, as well as other packaged third-party software, and Shell-developed software. Over 500 enterprise users of third-party software use SAMSuite to manage their software assets, many on a worldwide basis. Shell will also use GLOBEtrotter's FLEXlm, the de facto standard electronic license management (ELM) technology for the software industry, to license, manage and control access to software developed by Shell and used within Shell. Over 2000 software vendors use FLEXlm to electronically license their software and over $40 billion of software has been electronically licensed using FLEXlm.

SEPTAR, one of Shell's technology and research organizations, will be the first group to use the products covered by this contract. FLEXlm and SAMSuite will enable SEPTAR to control and track usage of software across multiple Shell-affiliated companies on a global basis. FLEXlm is used by many of Shell's main Exploration and Production software vendors to deliver software to Shell using a variety of innovative business models. Embedding FLEXlm into their in-house developed software was Shell's logical step to enable global portfolio management. SEPTAR's value-added software needs fast and effective deployment worldwide. Their portfolio includes third-party vendor software as well as Shell-developed software. Using SAMSuite will further standardize the way SEPTAR manages their software portfolio.
