Smallworldwide plc, (Nasdaq: SWLDY), the leading developer of new-era GIS applications that allow companies full integration between GIS, engineering, business and operational support systems including spatial management applications such as Smallworld 3, PowerOn(TM) and Smallworld Communications(TM), today announced an expansion of its board of directors with the addition of Ronald S. Posner. Effective immediately, Posner joins other board members: Dr. Richard G. Newell, chairman of the board, Andrew P. Stafford, chief executive officer, Richard T. Green, vice president, Timothy Cadman, Wolfgang D. Chittka, and Mark Diskin.

A leader in the high technology, software and Internet markets for more than 20 years, Posner has spearheaded some of the most innovative software deals in history and has now turned his talents to provide guidance to public and private companies to enhance their growth in the enterprise and e-commerce markets. Posner is founder and chairman of the board of PS Capital, a venture capital firm based in San Francisco, New York and London, that is focused on growth in the software and Internet markets. He is currently creating an international fund to support the entry of US Internet companies into European markets, and is identifying Internet resellers in each major European market to support international expansion.

Posner recently joined the board of directors of Internet software superstore Beyond.com (NASDAQ: BYND), and during 1998, he joined the board of Asymetrix Learning Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASYM), a leading provider of Internet-based enterprise learning solutions. Posner also holds key advisory and investment roles with GlobalNetFinancial.com, Inc. (GLBN) and Prizecentral.com.

Posner, 57, received his BS degree in mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He has significantly enhanced shareholder value for many leading companies such as Norton Utilities, Symantec, The Learning Company, SoftKey, WordStar, ANSA (Paradox), Segue, Borland, and CyberMedia.

With more than two decades in the technology industry, Posner began his career in the early 1970s with sales and marketing positions at Xerox Data Systems, The Mayfield Fund, Tratec, and the Coca-Cola Company. He later founded National Training Systems, a multimedia computer education provider. In 1983, he joined Ashton-Tate as a board member and executive vice president of world-wide sales and marketing. At Ashton-Tate, Posner was instrumental in expanding revenues from $10 million to over $200 million.

Posner has also held key advisory and investment roles with Electric Classifieds, the operator of Match.com which was sold to Cendant; NetAngels, which was acquired by Firefly, a company subsequently sold to Microsoft; TunesNetwork (Tunes.com), which was sold to Jam TV; the DJ.COM, renamed Spinner.com and sold to AOL; STV; Snickelways; Novatel; and Rival Networks in Germany. He is also an investor in the Kleiner Perkins Zaibatsu Fund, The New Enterprise Associates President's Fund, and the new H&Q Access Technology Fund.
