. (Nasdaq:PDEX) today announced the election of Ronald G. Coss as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Coss replaces Kent E. Searl who recently retired as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Company.

Mr. Coss stated, "The Board of Directors has now been reduced from 7 to 5 members to reduce costs and improve efficiency. These 5 members are highly qualified with vast board and operating experience to govern a company with our new focus on being a first class design and manufacturing supplier to high tech medical, dental and industrial companies."

Mr. Coss, 64, founded Micro Motors in 1971 and served as its Chairman from the date of inception until it was merged into Pro-Dex in July, 1995. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Board and the Company's Chief Technology Officer. Mr. Coss was the primary engineer in the development of Micro Motor's products and inventive technologies, which are the subjects of letters of patent now owned by Micro Motors.

Through the invention of an air operated Slow Speed Dental Handpiece, Mr. Coss founded Micro Motors. This breakthrough technology featured the smallest, yet most powerful rotary vane Vane , John Robert 1927-2004.

, and require minimal lubrication lubrication, introduction of a substance between the contact surfaces of moving parts to reduce friction and to dissipate heat. A lubricant may be oil, grease, graphite, or any substance—gas, liquid, semisolid, or solid—that permits free action of , which was later improved to require no lubrication. This enabled Dentists, who were already using High Speed Air Handpieces, to replace their belt driven Slow Speed Handpieces with a matching handpiece that would fit side by side in the dental unit. In the 70's, this became the most popular handpiece on the market, especially with Hygienists who utilized it for polishing teeth.

Subsequently, Mr. Coss designed this motor into many other products and applications, including Oral Surgery and Implantology handpieces, surgical and industrial motors and drills, grinders, and even into an industrial sewing machine sewing machine, device that stitches cloth and other materials. An attempt at mechanical sewing was made in England (1790) with a machine having a forked, automatic needle that made a single-thread chain. In 1830, B. .  procedures and more sophisticated surgical procedures Surgical procedures have long and possibly daunting names. The meaning of many surgical procedure names can often be understood if the name is broken into parts. For example in splenectomy, "ectomy" is a suffix meaning the removal of a part of the body. "Splene-" means spleen. .

Prior to starting Micro Motors, Mr. Coss was the Chief Design Engineer for Standard Pneumatic Motor A pneumatic motor is a machine which converts energy of compressed air into mechanical work. In industrial applications linear motion can come from either a diaphragm or piston actuator. As for rotary motion, either a vane type air motor or piston air motor is used.  Company, designing small screwdrivers, wire wrapping tools, and grinders. In 1964, Mr. Coss designed the first air powered Craniotome, a tool that reduced the time to open the flap on a skull from a rigorous one hour procedure to only 5 minutes, and an Orthairtome, an air powered screwdriver for quickly installing and setting bone screws.

Mr. Coss was nominated for Orange County's Entrepreneur of the Year for manufacturing in 1992 and 1993.
