Romare Bearden: Let's Walk the Block.


Romare Bearden Romare Bearden, (September 2, 1911, in Charlotte, North Carolina—March 12, 1988 in New York, New York) was an African-American artist and writer. The Metropolitan Museum of Art recently added this educational feature to the Explore & Learn area of their website. Designed with elementary school elementary school: see school.  age children in mind, this online program explores Romare Bearden's well-known collage collage (kəläzh`, kō–) [Fr.,=pasting], technique in art consisting of cutting and pasting natural or manufactured materials to a painted or unpainted surface—hence, a work of art in this medium. , The Block, in some depth. The program begins with a guided tour guided tour guide nvisite guidée;

 of the work with Lisa Messinger, associate curator, providing a voice-over narration. Other features on the site allow children to learn about the artist's life and work, to zoom To change from a distant view to a more close-up view (zoom in) and vice versa (zoom out). An application may provide fixed or variable levels of zoom. A display adapter may also have built-in zoom capability.  in on The Block and learn more about the work, to listen to the music that inspired Bearden, and to play online games. There is also a list of suggestions for parents and teachers to help guide children in examining Bearden's work, plus a list of books, videos, and online resources on the artist for those who want to learn more.

All in all, this is an excellent online resource for any elementary or middle-school art classroom. The Flash Player plug-in is required to view this site.
