Roctest Diversifies its Efforts in the Fiber Optic Market.

ST-LAMBERT, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 1997-- ROCTEST (ME:RTT RTT - Round-Trip Time ) Roctest, in cooperation with Capimont and Le Fonds de solidarite des travailleurs du Quebec (FTQ FTQ Fédération des Travailleurs du Québec

), invests 110,000 dollars on a total investment of 320,000 dollars for the start-up of Kromafibre Inc. in which Roctest will hold 13.33 percent of the shares.

The new company will manufacture filters and other components for the new generation of very high bit rate frequency-division-multiplexed(FDM (1) (Fused Deposition Modeling) See 3D printing.

(2) (Frequency Division Multiplexing) Transmitting multiple data signals simultaneously over a single wire by using multiple carriers, each having a unique center frequency.
) fiber optic communication systems. These components will allow to combine and separate the many communication channels transmitted by an optical fiber, and also to restore optical signal quality after their transmission over long distances. The world market for these new components is expanding rapidly and should reach 100 million dollars in the year 2000.

The star-up of Kromafibre is made possible by the expertise of its president and shareholder, Francois Ouellette, who holds more than 18 years experience in optics in Canada and abroad, mainly in the field of Bragg gratings See fiber Bragg grating. , a technology which is at the core of Kromafibres's developments.

Through this second start-up that it promotes, the first one being Fiso Technologies of Quebec city in 1994, a manufacturer of Fabry- Perot fiber optic sensors under license of National Optics Institute, Roctest confirms its leadership position in the marketing of a revolutionary line of fiber optic sensors, under the name of Sensoptic, to be used in a large civil engineering structures, its traditional field of activity. Kromafibre's contributing to this strategy will be essentially in the development of advanced manufacturing techniques which will find common applications for Kromafibre's and Roctest's needs.
