Rockwell Collins Wins ARJ21 Regional Jet Program; New Airliner to Be Equipped with Collins Pro Line 21 Avionics.

Rockwell Collins' (NYSE:COL) Pro Line 21 avionics system has been selected by AVIC I Commercial Aircraft Co. (ACAC) Ltd. of China for the new ARJ21 regional jet. In addition, Rockwell Collins was also named as the avionics system integrator for the advanced regional jet.

Collins Pro Line 21 systems are designed to meet the demands of the regional airline environment, specifically allowing for increased functionality, increased reliability and improved maintainability. The Pro Line 21 system's proven high dispatch availability, advanced data communications technology and extensive system integration will ensure growth for future operating CNS/ATM requirements.

ACAC has estimated the market for the ARJ21 in China and globally at 500 aircraft. The 79- to 99-seat aircraft is designed to meet the demanding conditions of China's diverse environment.

The ARJ 21 flight deck includes five Collins 10x 8-inch high-resolution liquid crystal adaptive flight displays, and integrates a number of advanced technologies, including integrated processing and Ethernet network communications.

The Pro Line 21 avionics package also includes:

-- Collins Pro Line 21 Communication, Navigation, Surveillance

(CNS) radio sensors, supporting the transition from voice to

data communications. The system features the Collins VHF-4000

voice/data receiver and IRU-4000, which combines digital data

and audio concentration functions, as well as data link

communications management functions. Collins Pro Line 21 CNS

delivers VDL Mode 2 communications today and positions ARJ21

for advanced functionality such as controller pilot data link

communications (CPDLC).

-- The Collins FMS-4200 Flight Management System, offering

operational flexibility and enhanced situational awareness

through capabilities such as multiple waypoint vertical

navigation; time/fuel planning and predictions; databased

Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs), Standard Terminal

Arrival Routes (STARs) and approaches.

-- The Collins solid-state weather radar, with optional

turbulence detection, offering weather detection in a 300

nautical-mile range. The system provides enhanced situational

awareness while reducing pilot workload.

-- The Collins AHS-3000 Attitude Heading Reference System,

featuring a digital quartz sensor, significantly improving

accuracy and reliability while reducing volume, weight, power

consumption and cost of ownership.

-- A fully integrated Engine Indication and Crew Alerting System

(EICAS) that provides all engine instrumentation and crew

annunciations in an integrated format.

-- Through its Kaiser Electroprecision business, Rockwell Collins

will also provide a full-function throttle control module

which interfaces with Collins autopilot, autothrottle and the

aircraft's engine FADECs. The module incorporates integrated

servo motors and electronics to provide autothrottle backdrive

capability.
