Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2003

Rockwell Collins (NYSE NYSE

See: New York Stock Exchange
:COL) has been selected by Aero Mexico to provide avionics and in-flight entertainment (IFE Ife (ē`fā), city (1991 est. pop. 262,000), SW Nigeria. Located in a farm region, the city is an important center for marketing and shipping cacao. According to tradition, Ife is the oldest Yoruba town (founded c.1300). ) for 11 new Boeing 737-700 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled through 2004.

The avionics package selected by Aero Mexico includes Collins' suite of data link communications, navigation and surveillance sensors, including the Collins MultiScan(TM) Weather Radar and GLU-920 multimode receiver (MMR MMR measles-mumps-rubella (vaccine); see measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine live, under vaccine.

). The cabin of the B737-700s will feature Rockwell Collins' Programmable Audio Video System (PAVES(R)) in-flight entertainment system.

The Collins data link communications system supports current and future digital CNS/ATM CNS/ATM Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management  environments, including ACARS ACARS Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System
ACARS ARINC Communications Addressing and Reporting System
ACARS Airborne Communications Addressing and Reporting System
ACARS Air Concepts and Requirements Study
ACARS Access Control and Release System
, future air navigation systems (FANS), controller-pilot data link communications (CPDLC CPDLC Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (aviation) ), VHF data link (VDL) Mode 2 and Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN ATN Acute tubular necrosis, see there ).

The Collins WXR-2100 MultiScan Weather Radar enhances safety by reducing the need for manual intervention. The automatic performance of radar scan patterns using multiple tilt angles and advanced data processing reduces pilot workload and provides more complete information for weather hazard avoidance. The MultiScan Radar optimizes short- and long-range weather detection at all times without requiring pilot adjustment of the radar tilt control, and alerts flight crews during takeoff and approach of potentially dangerous windshear.

The Aero Mexico avionics package also includes the Collins GLU-920 multimode receiver (MMR), an integrated unit that provides the aircraft's primary position, velocity and time reference, and enables precision landing capability. It offers instrument landing system (ILS ILS

) capability and high-integrity satellite-based positioning for navigation and future landing functions, and offers growth to support microwave landing system The Microwave Landing System (MLS) is an all-weather, precision landing system originally intended to replace or supplement the Instrument Landing System (ILS). MLS has a number of operational advantages, including a wide selection of channels to avoid interference with other  (MLS) capability. The Collins MMR will meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

As featured in the cabin of the new Aero Mexico B737-700s, Rockwell Collins' Programmable Audio Video System (PAVES(R)) in-flight entertainment system will provide overhead video on 10.4-inch retractable monitors and wide viewing angles with crisp and bright picture quality.

The aircraft will also be equipped with the Collins universal audio distribution system (ADS), allowing Aero Mexico the ability to provide up to 22 digital audio channels. The universal ADS reduces weight and power consumption, and allows for common components across a mixed fleet of aircraft.

PAVES was the industry's first programmable audio/video entertainment system for single-aisle aircraft. The system is currently installed on more than 500 aircraft operated by leading airlines throughout the world. Additional features include new retractable monitors and a completely redesigned flight attendant user interface that allows for simple one-touch operation. The system also has the capability to display live satellite television.
