Rockin' Gina.

I was excited to see Gina Gershon on your cover ["Simply Irresistible," September 30]. I think Gina is fantastic, but your article made me want to see her new film, Prey for Rock and Roll, even more. As a fan, I thought the writer asked many of the questions I would have asked if I had been in his place.

Gina has such a great attitude. I know there are many straight actresses out there who are not comfortable playing lesbian. I'm glad Gina is not one of them.

I was really disappointed to see Gina Gershon on your cover, especially knowing that Cheri Lovedog--the dyke who wrote/Prey for Rock and Roll--is a lot more interesting, seemingly a lot more intelligent, and, in the opinion of most real dykes I know, a lot sexier. (All the butch dykes I know liked Bound because of Jennifer Tilly, and the femme dykes only liked Gina because she's the best they could hope to see on the big screen.)

Gershon is another lame egomaniac straight woman selling herself to us queers by dressing like Linda Perry. Now she wants to be a fucking rock star. Cut me a break! Why don't you start focusing on actual gay people to be our icons? A little community self-esteem can go a long way, and a cover article featuring someone like Cheri Lovedog--an outspoken individual who knows volumes about being a gay artist, writer, musician, partner parent--would be a hell of a lot more interesting and do more for our community than more superficial Hollywood-style dribble from Gina.
