Rock show heavy on the metal honors teenager's memory.

(born April 14, 216, southern Babylonia—died 274?, Gundeshapur) Persian founder of Manichaeism.
 Shimada, 16, died after contracting viral meningitis at a rock show.

Shortly after his death, his family and friends established the Mani Shimada Memorial Fund, designed to aid local teenagers.

ManifestII: Lotus Grows in the Pit, a concert of death metal, hardcore and black metal, will help raise funds for the memorial fund.

The show will be held Saturday at the WOW Hall, 291 W. Eighth Ave. Admission will be $5 at the door and showtime show·time or show time

Four bands will be on the bill. They are:

Rutah, from Spokane, performs music inspired by the extreme metal acts Morbid Angel Morbid Angel is a Florida-based death metal band assembled in 1983. They, along with Death, Possessed, Obituary and a handful of others were crucial in the development of the death metal genre and its standards. , Emperor and Slayer;

World of Lies, from Portland, dig deep into grindcore, death metal, thrash thrash - To move wildly or violently, without accomplishing anything useful. Necryptic, from Eugene, aren't afraid to infuse in·fuse

 everything from European black metal to blues;

Tormentium, from Eugene, plays Swedish style black metal with natural death metal progressions.

Shimada was a junior at the Wellsprings Friends School, an alternative high school that is grounded in the belief in the inherent goodness and light within each individual.

The Mani Shimada Memorial Fund is dedicated to opening the "golden heart within every teen," according to according to

The fund's goals include:

Bridging alternative high school and local community as well as teens and adults;

Providing financial aid to teens wishing to attend Wellsprings;

Helping Wellsprings students in becoming complete individuals;

Increasing awareness of Wellsprings and its mission;

Carrying on Shimada's spirit.
