Rochdale fear Robbo is out of their reach.
ROCHDALE are tracking former Town winger Gary Roberts - but fear they could lose out to a higher-level club.
The 28-year-old, who helped Town to League I play-off glory at Wembley last month, continues to be linked with Sheffield Wednesday, also promoted to the Championship, after his Galpharm release.
The former Ipswich man played under Rochdale management duo John Coleman and Jimmy Bell at Accrington, where the trio enjoyed Conference title success in 2006.
Rochdale were relegated from League I last season, and Bell fears that could count against them when it comes to a possible reunion.
"We would love to have Gary at Spotland," said Bell. "He is a fantastic player and we are interested.
"I watched him at Wembley and he is a good friend of mine and John's, but I am sure he will get a Championship or League I club.
"If for some reason he doesn't, then we will certainly be one of those fighting for his signature."
Roberts, who turned down a new Town contract offer 12 months ago, joined for pounds 250,000 from Ipswich in 2008 and made 192 appearances, scoring 39 goals.
