Roberta is knifed by Mr Nasty.

Byline: SEAN O'BRIEN

STUNNING Roberta Howett was the shock first eviction from the X Factor last night - falling victim to Simon Cowell.

Sharon Osbourn's star protege was close to tears after Mr Nasty used his casting vote against her.

The 23-year-old from Dublin was given an emotional hug by Sharon who was involved in a bitter war of words with Simon last week.

The two judges' tempers reached boiling point on the ITV1 talent show last night as Simon said Roberta "should be working in a hotel".

Sharon replied: "You'd like to see her in your hotel bedroom." At another point Sharon turned on Simon and told him to: "Stop picking on kids and pick on someone your own size."

Roberta was evicted after a telephone vote rated her and trio Voices With Soul the weakest of the nine finalists.
