Robert Thevis selected as Louisiana Farmer of the Year. (FYI News & Notes).
The Louisiana Louisiana (ləwē'zēăn`ə, l ē'–), state in the S central United States. It is bounded by Mississippi, with the Mississippi R. forming about half of the border (E), the Gulf of Mexico (S), Texas (W), and Arkansas (N). Farmer of the Year award was presented to Robert Thevis of Simmesport. The program is sponsored each year by the Louisiana Dodge Dealers, John Deere Dealers and the Louisiana Network, in cooperation with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and Louisiana State University Ag Center. Thevis, a 39-year farming veteran, is active in farm organizations, including serving for four years on the board of directors of the Louisiana Rice Growers and for 20 years on the board of directors for the Rice Council. He has also served on the State Farm Bureau Rice Advisory Board for 25 years. As the winner, he receives the use of a new Dodge truck for one year, 150 hours use of a John Deere tractor and a $1,000 cash award.
