Robert Starzel - Rail Industry Leader and News Exec - Joins Pacer International's Board of Directors.

), the North America logistics and transportation provider, has appointed senior rail industry and newspaper executive Robert F. (Bob) Starzel to its Board of Directors, effective January 4.

Most recently chairman of the San Francisco Newspaper Company, which owns The Examiner, Starzel served as senior representative of the chairman of the Union Pacific Railroad Union Pacific Railroad, transportation company chartered (1862) by Congress to build part of the nation's first transcontinental railroad line. Under terms of the Pacific Railroads Act, the Union Pacific was authorized to build a line westward from Omaha, Nebr.  from 2000-2004. Prior to that, he was UPRR's senior vice president, since 1998, and earlier served as the railroad's vice president, Western region.
