Book Sense Cites Paperback as Noteworthy

SAN ANTONIO San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837.  -- Robert Rivard, author of the critically acclaimed true crime tale Trail of Feathers, will discuss his book at an evening reading and conversation Tuesday, February 6, at 6 p.m. at Bellas Artes Auditorium in San Miguel de Allende San Miguel de Allende is the seat of the municipality of Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, a historic town founded in 1542 that has become an attractive tourist destination for wealthy Mexico City residents and has a large American and Canadian expatriate community comprised primarily , Guanajuato, Mexico.

Rivard's talk is part of the winter series of lectures sponsored by San Miguel San Miguel (sän mēgĕl`), city (1993 pop. 118,214), E El Salvador, at the foot of San Miguel volcano (6,996 ft/2,132 m). It has textile, rope, and dairy-products industries. The region produces cotton, henequen, and vegetable oil.  PEN.

"It's an honor to be selected by PEN, given its mission of freedom of expression and protecting writers," said Rivard. "Since Trail of Feathers is set in Mexico, it's a special opportunity for me to present the book to an audience in Mexico."

Trail of Feathers chronicles the true story of Rivard's search for justice in the December 1998 murder of his Mexico City correspondent Philip True, who was killed in a Deliverance-like episode in western Mexico while hiking solo through Huichol Indian territory in the Sierra Madre Occidental Sierra Madre Oc·ci·den·tal  

A mountain range of northwest Mexico running parallel to the Pacific coastline and adjoining the Mexican plateau. It extends for about 1,609 km (1,000 mi) southward from the border of Arizona.

Books will be available for purchase and inscription following the event. Proceeds from the book sales will benefit the Philip True Education Trust, established in 1999 to benefit the slain correspondent's son, Philip Theodore True, and PEN San Miguel.
