The vineyard is planted primarily to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 30 acres of Sauvignon Blanc in production. The 1997 planting will include about another 150 acres of Chardonnay and an additional 60 acres of Pinot Noir. Originally planted in 1973, Sierra Madre Vineyard earned a reputation for the production of stellar Pinot Noir and Chardonnay by the early eighties, boosting demand for its fruit among some of the state's top winemakers.
