Robert J. Frankenberg Elected to Caere Corporation Board.

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 26, 1996--Caere Corporation (NASDAQ:CAER) announced today that its board of directors has elected Robert J. Frankenberg to serve as a member of the board effective immediately.

Frankenberg, 49, is the former chairman and CEO of Novell, Inc., the second largest PC software company in the world. At Novell, Frankenberg was responsible for a host of accomplishments including product introductions that take advantage of the emerging intranet market, record sales of NetWare, and establishing profit & loss responsibilities for individual business groups.

Prior to joining Novell in 1994, Frankenberg was at Hewlett-Packard Company for 25 years. He was vice president and general manager, Personal Information Products Group of HP, where he was responsible for HP's Vectra personal computers, NetServer PC servers, Ethertwist PC LANs, routers, and mobile networking, as well as PC utility software, consumer networking, and personal information appliance business.

During his tenure, HP moved from 26th to 7th in PC market share, entered and became number 3 in the PC server market, and HP PC networking products attained the number 3 position overall in network hardware.

Frankenberg's previous responsibilities at HP included leadership of the Information Networks Group, the Information Systems Group and the Office Systems Division and research and development responsibility in the Computer Systems Division and the Data Systems Division.

Frankenberg holds a BS in computer engineering from San Jose State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He also was a participant in the Stanford Business School Executive Program.

He is a past member of the San Jose State University School of Engineering Advisory Board, the Stanford Business School Alumni Board, and Placer Rehabilitation Industries (PRIDE), Roseville, Calif.
