Kirchner, a former Longview, Washington, industrial leader, was elected to the 10-member Longview Fibre Company Board of Directors by shareholders at the Company's recent annual meeting. He also has been appointed to serve on the Board's Audit and Compensation Committees. For half of his 36-year career in the private sector, Kirchner was president of Kalama Chemical, which manufactured and marketed specialty and fine chemicals. He led the company and its subsidiaries from 1980 until the plant at Kalama, Washington, was purchased by B.F. Goodrich in 1998. He continued with B.F. Goodrich as general manager of the Kalama facility until his retirement in 2000. Kirchner first worked in industry for Dow Chemical at Rocky Flats, Colorado, where the company was an Atomic Energy Commission Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), former U.S. government commission created by the Atomic Energy Act of 1946 and charged with the development and control of the U.S. atomic energy program following World War II. In 1969 he was transferred and promoted to Dow's Kalama operations as assistant plant manager. Kirchner and two other employees purchased the Kalama plant in 1971 and formed Kalama Chemical. Kirchner currently serves on the governing board of St. John Hospital and Clinic in Longview, and is a member of the boards for the Community Foundation of Southwest Washington and the Toutle River Ranch (Youth and Family Link Program).
