At 61 x 20m, Frank Gehry's distinctive roof at the DZ bank in Berlin has a total area of 1856sqm. The support structure of this whale-shaped arched roof consists of a shell structure with triangular fields, 2490 rods and 826 joints. The joints were cut from stainless-steel plates and then milled. The glass is fixed with stainless-steel plates attached externally, and the 1500 different triangular units are made from two-pane thermal insulation The term thermal insulation can refer to materials used to reduce the rate of heat transfer, or the methods and processes used to reduce heat transfer. Heat is transferred from one material to another by conduction, convection and/or radiation. glass (white glass), installed with stainless-steel spacers. The coloured glass--suspended around the building in three layers--forms a highly composed envelope that exploits overlap and relief. Each pane is held in place by stainless-steel tension rods with each unique glass element being secured to the rods by clamps and spacers. The tension rods are supported by brackets at roof level. Schmidlin also produced the inner facade that comprises curtain wall curtain wall Nonbearing wall of glass, metal, or masonry attached to a building's exterior structural frame. After World War II, low energy costs gave impetus to the concept of the tall building as a glass prism, an idea originally put forth by Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies units with triple-glazed aluminium frames, and the fixed glazing on the ground floor which incorporates large double-glazed sliding gates with stainless-steel frames.
