Roaring, Boring Alice written by P. K. Merski and illustrated by Mark Weber is the picturebook story of the Aurora Borealis aurora borealis (bôr'ēăl`ĭs) and aurora australis (ôstrā`lĭs), luminous display of various forms and colors seen in the night sky.  told in a rhyming verse by a little house mouse. The charming tall tale introduces readers to the ungrateful Alice, whose loud voice changes into the Northern Lights--until an odd little person offers her the choice to be nice, so that her normal voice will return. An afterword explains the scientific phenomenon of the aurora borealis, noting that the colorful lights do indeed have a voice--swishing, crackling crack·ling
