Riverbed Continues Momentum in Korea with Bank of Korea's Selection of Steelhead Appliances for Acceleration of Global Applications.

Adds to Customer Successes, Including GS Retail, Hyundai HISCO, Samsung Corporation, and SK Chemicals

SAN FRANCISCO -- Riverbed Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), announced today that Bank of Korea has selected and begun implementing Riverbed's Steelhead[R] WDS appliances as part of its global network infrastructure, significantly enhancing its groupware and core applications performance. Bank of Korea's selection of Riverbed[R] follows Riverbed's successes over the last year with other companies in Korea such as GS Retail, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hyundai HISCO, Samsung Corporation, and SK Chemicals. Riverbed also counts the Korea Customs Service, the Rural Development Administration and the Veterans Hospital as its customers.

Bank of Korea is the national central bank of the Republic of Korea and was established on June 12, 1950 in Seoul. Bank of Korea required speedy processing of information and orders from intranet portals delivered to global offices, but it suffered poor response times due to low bandwidth on overseas leased lines and application and network latency. To enhance data upload speed from its global offices and help ensure prompt delivery of information from its central data center, Bank of Korea selected and introduced Riverbed's WDS solutions as part of its global network infrastructure. When selecting a vendor to work with, Bank of Korea's main project criterion was for a solution capable of accelerating its core application performance without changing its existing network and security infrastructure. After reviewing various vendor products, Bank of Korea concluded that Riverbed's WDS solution was the only one that met its requirements.

After installation of Riverbed's Steelhead appliances at Bank of Korea's China office and the organization's Seoul data center, Bank of Korea found dramatic improvements in groupware performance and upload/download speed for attachments. As a result, Bank of Korea has been able to reduce the average download time for mail attachments from 30 seconds to five seconds. And the document download time for the organization's groupware system was reduced by 90%.

Motivated by this success, Bank of Korea is currently planning to implement Riverbed's solution in its six remote overseas offices: Hong Kong, New York, Washington, Frankfort, Tokyo and London.
