In recognition of his leadership and dedication to helping children with special needs, St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children will honor Vincent L. Riso of the Briarwood bri·ar·wood

Throughout his career, Riso's mission and passion have been to provide safe housing developments and communities where families can flourish. For more than 50 years, Riso has led the Briarwood Organization, LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

, a builder of two and three-family homes and mid to high-rise residential buildings in New York City. A family-owned business for more than a century, Briarwood has constructed thousands of residential units and thousands of square feet of commercial space. Since the mid 1980s, Briarwood has developed more than 2,500 housing units.

Among Riso and Briarwood's credits is the recent revitalization of Far Rockaway Rockaway, narrow peninsula, c.10 mi (16 km) long, SW Long Island, SE N.Y., in Queens borough of New York City. Separating Jamaica Bay from the Atlantic Ocean and isolated from the rest of New York City, the densely populated peninsula owes its growth to road and rail  into what has been dubbed "The Hamptons West," with the completion of 80 two-family units and 130 more in construction. In a continued effort to provide affordable housing in New York City, Briarwood is also developing 162 cooperative apartments in the Bronx.

Riso first became acquainted with St. Mary's in the 1960s as a young member of the Bayside bay·side

In addition to his work for St. Mary's, Riso is involved in numerous other civic, charitable, and professional causes. He received a 2006 East Harlem Community Service Award from Hope Community for having contributed greatly to making East Harlem a better place to live and work.
