Rigoberto Advincula to present Technical Focus Lecture at 2007 FutureCoat! Conference in Toronto.

The FSCT has announced that Rigoberto Advincula, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston, has been selected to give the 2007 Technical Focus Lecture. The presentation will be part of the 2007 FutureCoat! Conference, to be held in conjunction with ICE 2007, October 3-5, 2007, in Toronto, Ont., Canada. Dr. Advincula will speak on "Nanostructured Electro-optically Active Smart Coatings: A Precursor Approach to Conjugated Polymer Networks." In his presentation, Dr. Advincula will report on strategies for preparing smart coatings based on conjugated polymer network films.

Dr. Advincula was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida University of Florida is the third-largest university in the United States, with 50,912 students (as of Fall 2006) and has the eighth-largest budget (nearly $1.9 billion per year). UF is home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes.  in 1994 after receiving a B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines In 2004, the University's seal and the Oblation were registered in the Philippine Intellectual Property Office to prevent unauthorized use and multiplication of the symbols for the centennial of the University in 2008.  in 1987. Dr. Advincula served as the Alexander Von Humboldt Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research The Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (German: Max-Planck-Institut für Polymerforschung ) is located in Mainz, Germany. It was founded in 1983. It is one of 80 institute in the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft).  in Mainz, Germany, working under Wolfgang Knoll in 1995-1996. He then served as a visiting researcher at Hewlett-Packard (Agilent Technologies) and IBM, Almaden Research Center.

Prior to his current position at the University of Houston, Dr. Advincula was assistant professor in the Chemistry Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB began in 1936 as the Birmingham Extension Center of the University of Alabama. Because of the rapid growth of the Birmingham area, it was decided that an extension program for students who had difficulties which prevented them from studying in Tuscaloosa was needed. , as well as adjunct professor with the university's department of Materials Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

The recipient of numerous honors and achievements, Dr. Advincula was named visiting professor at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (September-October 2006), at McGill University and University of Montreal (July 2006), and the National University of Singapore The National University of Singapore (Abbreviation: NUS) is Singapore's oldest university. It is the largest university in the country in terms of student enrollment and curriculum offered.  Department of Chemistry (2004 and 2006).

Additional awards include the Arthur Doolittle Award of the American Chemical Society, PMSE Division, in 2003, and the NSF-CAREER Award of the National Science Foundation in 1999.
