Riese reclaims part of his family's legacy for $29m.

$29 million was a small price for Dennis Riese to pay to reclaim what calls a part of his family's legacy. "It was a little emotional," he said of his deal this week to purchase the 24,000 s/f retail condo at 729 Seventh Avenue from NorthStar.

His father, Murray, originally bought and developed the building in 1982, separating it into one part retail one part office.

"My family has been the occupants of the retail section ever since," said Dennis, who has helmed the Riese Organization since his father and uncle's deaths in the mid 90s.

"At one point, we sold it and then took out a long lease. Now, I've had the opportunity to reacquire it."

He did so by partnering with Himmel + Merringoff Properties, which, in partnership with Blackacre Capital, bought the 163,400 s/f office building for $11 million in 1996.

In a statement, NorthStar confirmed it had sold its ownership interest in the 19,618 s/f retail condo unit and, as additional consideration for the sale, 729 7th Realty realty n. a short form of "real estate." (See: real estate)
