Baugh, who came to be widely known by the nickname "Slingin Sammy", began playing football as a schoolboy in Sweetwater, Texas in the 1920s.  and Sid Luckman, who were instrumental in defining the quarterback's role, to modern-day sport stars such as Brett Favre.
