Ricochet Coversheet From Kofax Extends Remote Production Document Capture to Digital Copiers and MFPs; Free Utility Leverages Existing Office Equipment Investment.

Kofax today announced availability of Ricochet Coversheet, a new document capture utility for Ascent Capture, which enables remote offices to capture documents with nothing more than a Web browser and their existing office copiers or multifunction peripherals (MFPs).

It's the first in a new family of easy-to-use, browser-based document creation and indexing products for the Ascent production capture environment.

With Ricochet Coversheet, knowledge workers can scan, pre-index and initiate production workflows for document packages they helped create. Designed for relatively small capture volumes, the solution does not require any investment in additional document scanners, capture software or the hiring of specially trained operators.

"Ricochet Coversheet empowers these content experts to initiate workflows faster and more accurately than overnight delivery or any other method of remote or centralized document capture."

Combines Familiar, Ubiquitous Web Browsers and Office Copiers

Ricochet Coversheet is a simple Web form which the user retrieves from a corporate intranet. The form allows the user to select from a list of administrator-defined document packages (e.g. loan application) to create. The utility then presents the user with a short list of index fields associated with the chosen package. The user fills in these fields and Ricochet Coversheet returns a document cover sheet with two barcodes. The user prints the coversheet to the copier or MFP and then scans it with the document.

"The user doesn't need to know anything about the terminology or procedures of production document capture," Morper said. "Behind the scenes, Ascent Capture auto-imports the document images and recognizes the barcodes, which tell it where to find an XML file that contains the index information and instructions for further processing and automated release to workflow or archive."

Requirements, Availability and Pricing

Ricochet Coversheet requires Ascent Capture v5.0 or later, Microsoft IIS Server v5.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.0 or later. Ricochet Capture does not require installation from disk or hardware licensing keys on the client PC. It may be downloaded without charge at www.kofax.com.
