Jany joins RailAmerica from Texas Northwestern Railway where he was executive vice president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

. Prior to that he had been general manager of the Texas-based Seagraves Whiteface and Lubbock Railroad and Floydata and Plainview Railroad. Those railroads were acquired by RailAmerica in November 1995. Jany started his railroad career with the Union Pacific Railroad Union Pacific Railroad, transportation company chartered (1862) by Congress to build part of the nation's first transcontinental railroad line. Under terms of the Pacific Railroads Act, the Union Pacific was authorized to build a line westward from Omaha, Nebr. , Omaha, Neb., and served as train management manager and operations control officer. He holds a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri, Rolla.

In announcing the appointment, John H. Marino, president and chief operating officer of RailAmerica, said: "Rick Jany, with his prior experience in both Class I and regional railroad operations and management, will play an important role in our expanding rail operations. As we continue our program of selective acquisitions, we are pleased to have Rick as a member of our management team to assist us in that process."
