BEVERLY HILLS Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. , Calif. -- Beverly Hills will become home to a new 252-unit luxury condominium project designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier Richard Meier (born October 12 1934 in Newark, New Jersey) is an influential, contemporary American architect known for his rationalist designs and the use of the colour white. . It will be the most environmentally friendly Environmentally friendly, also referred to as nature friendly, is a term used to refer to goods and services considered to inflict minimal harm on the environment.[1]  luxury condominium announced outside of New York New York, state, United States

and will be the first of its kind in the West to achieve a LEED Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The project will be developed at 9900 Wilshire Boulevard Wilshire Boulevard is one of the principal east-west arterial roads in Los Angeles, California, United States. It was named for H. Gaylord Wilshire (1861-1927), an Ohio native who made and lost fortunes in real estate, farming, and gold mining. , the site of soon to be closed Robinsons-May department store. The property consists of eight-acres at the western gateway to the City of Beverly Hills at Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  Boulevard and is adjacent to the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Using only a third of the eight-acre site for the buildings, 9900 Wilshire will comprise residences ranging in size from 1,200 to 6,500 square feet, including 35 lofts and townhouses. The majority of 9900 Wilshire's eight-acre site will be transformed into open landscaped gardens, including a public garden by landscape architects Laurie D. Olin & Associates, whose award-winning projects include the National Gallery Sculpture Garden A sculpture garden is an outdoor garden dedicated to the presentation of sculpture, usually several permanently-sited works in durable materials in landscaped surroundings.  in Washington, D.C. and the re-design of the Washington Monument Washington Monument, obelisk-shaped tower, 555 ft 5 1-9 in. The site also will include a limited number of retail stores and restaurants, primarily to serve the residents. 9900 Wilshire will be one of the few full-service residential developments in Beverly Hills that will provide full security, doormen, and valet and concierge services.

"We believe 9900 Wilshire will set the standard in design, luxury, and environmental responsibility, for residential development in Beverly Hills," said David P. Margulies, New Pacific Realty's CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "We're filling the need for more high-end residential development with the most advanced energy- and water-saving technology available. This project, at an important gateway to our city, will set the standard for development by which Beverly Hills is known throughout the world."

The new condominiums at 9900 Wilshire Boulevard will be the first outside of New York to meet the stringent standards set by the U.S. Green Building Council for its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. To meet LEED standards, buildings must meet specific criteria involving electricity and water use, choice of construction and finishing materials, global warming global warming, the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth's lower atmosphere as a result of the increase in greenhouse gases since the Industrial Revolution.  emissions, transit access, and more.

The combination of building and landscape design on this site will mean that residence owners will use 25 percent less electricity and 50 percent less water than similarly sized homes in Beverly Hills. Taking advantage of its location, the buildings allow substantial energy savings by using natural light and the prevailing westerly breeze. The gardens will be kept green year-round by recycling "grey" water recaptured from the building.

"We're creating nothing less than a new landmark for Beverly Hills in which residents can make both a design and an environmental statement," according to Arnold S. Rosenstein, chairman of the development company. "Just as important, this creates an opportunity for Beverly Hills families to remain in the city, who would otherwise leave because there are currently no luxury buildings of this caliber here."

Mr. Rosenstein added, "We hope that following this example, Beverly Hills will be a leader among cities making green development the rule, rather than the exception."
