You learn about these major events in history class, but how many of you are inspired to write poetry about them? Well, Sierra Myers, 13, of Baltimore did just that.  in Washington, D.C." So, what exactly is a do-rag? It's a head covering worn as a fashion statement and to protect the hair. Sierra wants teens to realize it's not the type of head covering you wear but the quality of the person under the do-rag. Besides her odes to history, Sierra depicts hardships teens face today-drugs, gangs, peer pressure, relationships. "I started writing when I was 10," says Sierra. "Most of the poems are about my own experiences and some of my friends '." Oh, and Sierra's brother Donovan, 14, did the illustrations for Under the Do-Rag.
