It is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in alkalies, and soluble in dilute hydrofluoric acid. Sodium orthosilicate is Na4SiO4 (or 2Na2O·SiO2); sodium (the raw material for silica) brings to Rhodia an additional annual precipitated silica production capacity of Tover 20,000 tons, and 50,000 tons of sodium silicate to serve the Americas markets.
