--Latest Release Version Benefits Software Developers With New Capabilities for Delivering Safety Critical Applications, Distributed Applications and Small Footprint Applications

The latest developments in Rhapsody (1) A subscription-based online music service from RealNetworks that gives users unlimited access to a vast library of major and independent label music. Within a single interface, Rhapsody provides access to streaming music, Internet radio and extensive music information and  6.1 offers new Domain Specific Language (DSL DSL

) capabilities to systems engineers, bringing an unprecedented customization functionality to users, a feature that underpins the major enhancements found in the most recent release of this award-winning tool family. Using Rhapsody 6.1, a systems engineer can now not only develop Department of Defense Architecture Framework The Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) defines a standard way to organize an enterprise architecture (EA) or systems architecture into complementary and consistent views. All major U.S.  (DoDAF) compliant systems quickly and easily, the user can also simulate the design and detect errors early in the design cycle. Accessing this powerful capability, aerospace and defense systems engineers can now work in an intuitive DoDAF look and feel environment, developing, debugging and automatically documenting DoDAF compliant systems. DoDAF, the aerospace and defense industry's modeling language, is intended to ensure that the architecture descriptions developed by the commands, services, and agencies are inter-relatable between and among each organization's operational, systems, and technical architecture views and are comparable and integrable across Joint and combined organizational boundaries.

Rhapsody 6.1 now provides an innovative solution to the systems engineer with an integrated requirements and design environment which is Systems Modeling Language (SysML) latest draft standard (v 0.91) compliant. The SysML modeling enhancements made to Rhapsody 6.1 benefit systems engineers with reduced errors, improved traceability, decreased ambiguity and enhanced communications. I-Logix is an active participant and contributor to the Object Management Group (OMG (1) See Object Management Group.

The latest Rhapsody release offers the systems engineer two new role-oriented packages created to meet each user's specific needs. The Systems Architect package is targeted to users whose focus is on drawing and design documentation. It features an intuitive drawing and design environment that is fully compliant with the latest SysML standard (v 0.91). The ergonomic look and feel includes easy installation, a systems tutorial documentation feature, systems samples and menu items provided in a natural way to systems engineers. Ease-of-use is enhanced with systems wizards, enhanced graphics support for user-defined graphics and a diagram navigator feature for large systems diagrams. Additionally, Systems Architect has a significant static analysis capability to ensure model consistency and model completeness. The SysML profile allows users to access requirements diagrams and notations, block diagrams, parametric diagrams and activity pins. The second role-oriented package now available with Rhapsody 6.1 is Systems Designer, targeted to users who are focused on systems design and validation. Systems Designer includes everything in the Systems Architect package plus a powerful simulation capability via easy GNU gnu (n) or wildebeest (wĭl`dəbēst'), large African antelope, genus Connochaetes.  compiler install, an action language mapping guide and simulation menu item.

Rhapsody 6.1 continues to extend its market leading capabilities for the software developer in three distinct areas. First, Rhapsody 6.1 facilitates the development of safety critical applications by generating C code that is compliant with Motor Industry Software Reliability Association The Motor Industry Software Reliability Association (MISRA), is a collaboration between vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers and engineering consultants which seeks to promote best practice in developing safety-related electronic systems in road vehicles.  (MISRA MISRA Motor Industry Software Reliability Association (UK) ) standards. Adopted and used across a wide variety of industries and applications including the rail, aerospace, military and medical sectors, the MISRA C standard enables developers to ensure the safety criticality of applications. Second, with automated support of Common Object Request Broker Architecture (standard, programming) Common Object Request Broker Architecture - (CORBA) An Object Management Group specification which provides a standard messaging interface between distributed objects.

The original CORBA specification (1.
(CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global (R)) ports and types, Rhapsody 6.1 further automates the development of distributed applications. Third, by providing an Interrupt Driven Framework (IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) A wiring rack located between the MDF (main distribution frame) and the intended end user devices (telephones, routers, PCs, etc.). Cables run from the outside world to the MDF and then to the IDFs. See MDF and wiring rack. ) Rhapsody 6.1 enables the development of applications that have a very small footprint. Typically these applications run in a highly resource constrained environment, usually without a Real-Time Operating System (operating system) Real-Time Operating System - (RTOS) Any operating system where interrupts are guaranteed to be handled within a certain specified maximum time, thereby making it suitable for control of hardware in embedded systems and other time-critical applications.  (RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. See real time system, embedded system, process control and OS-9. ).

"I-Logix customers told us that they need a natural, intuitive design environment for Systems Engineers that would meet the diverse standards compliance requirements that exist in various systems engineering domains, and we have responded with Rhapsody 6.1, a tool family that clearly stakes out a leadership role in Systems Engineering tools market," Neeraj Chandra, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Development, said. "Coupled with the new capabilities to develop safety critical, distributed and constrained environment applications, the latest Rhapsody release provides a powerful systems through software and test solution for the embedded, real-time developer," Chandra states.

With a powerful DoDAF and SysML capabilities, new role-oriented packages, automated MISRA C and CORBA compliance and IDF for small footprint applications, the latest version of Rhapsody represents a major advance in meeting some of the embedded systems and software industry's most daunting daunt

challenges. Rhapsody 6.1 is the first-in-class solution for the software and systems engineering community, which builds on the success and acceptance of Rhapsody 6.0, enhancing the user experience with a tool chain that incorporates a rich feature set that allows systems engineers and software developers to work naturally in a single design environment that drives productivity and produces high quality results.

About I-Logix

Founded in 1987, I-Logix is the worldwide leading provider of collaborative Model-Driven Development (MDD MDD Major depressive disorder, see there ) solutions for systems design through software development focused on real-time embedded applications. These solutions allow engineers, operating in either small or very large teams, to graphically model the requirements, behavior, and functionality of embedded systems. The design is iteratively analyzed, validated, and tested throughout the development process while automatically generated production quality code can be output in a variety of languages. I-Logix facilitates team collaboration through unique project and task management capabilities integrated into its UML (Unified Modeling Language) An object-oriented analysis and design language from the Object Management Group (OMG). Many design methodologies for describing object-oriented systems were developed in the late 1980s.  based MDD solutions, enabling design review and inter-team participation from concept-to-code, regardless of where team members are located. I-Logix is headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts and has sales and support centers throughout North America, Europe and the Far East.
